Grant Writing:
From PhD to Scientific Leadership

The training is of great importance to our ESRs. Obtaining grants for research ideas will be crucial in any field of research whether they pursue their careers in academia or in industry. Writing highly successful grants requires learning to articulate ideas in a convincing concept, mastering a new vocabulary and way of thinking to fit to the requirements of the funding agencies.

In this training workshop, the importance of drafting the research project for
an individual grant will be on focus, covering the specific grant vocabulary ranging from scientific breakthrough, challenges, aims, objectives, outputs, results to impact.
Furthermore best practices developed with national and EU funding schemes like the Marie Sklodowska Curie fellowships will be discussed.
The training takes place entirely remotely and has been designed to provide young scientists - PhD students as well as PostDocs - interested in obtaining grants at an international level with strategic input for writing competitive proposals.

Content

Part 1. Conceptual Framework Funding Organisations 
Overview of potential national and EU funding, highlighting how to understand the focus of the funding agency and the consequences for the scientific proposal

Part 2. Using a logical framework in Grant Writing
Coherency of logic for the reviewers; how to maintain an iron-clad logic independent of the structure of the grant

Part 3. Understanding the Grant Writing Vocabulary
From idea to concept, captured in a visualization; From overarching aim to specific objectives, and everything between rationales and impact 

Part 4. Project implementation aspects
Work packages, time schedule and risk analysis

Part 5. Impact
How to write about dissemination activities, exploitation and public outreach.
