Paula Giraldo obtained a Bachelor's degree in 2017 in Biological Engineering from the National University of Colombia. In 2020, she graduated with an MSc in Molecular Medicine and Innovative treatment from Uppsala University and the University of Groningen.
During her Master’s studies, she worked on evaluating the role of the ATPase inhibitory factor-1 in hypertrophy. In 2019, as a science intern at Washington University (St Louis, USA), she worked on evaluating the mechanisms and roles of mitophagy in neurodegeneration.
Paula joined the BIOREMIA Network in August 2020. Her PhD project at the University of Gothenburg (Sweden) is focused on developing a robust in vitro model to evaluate the interplay between inflammation and regeneration and its modulation by surface and bulk composition of metallic materials. The main goal is to use this in vitro model to systematically study the role of alloying elements, as well as surface modifications, in order to understand better what factors are important for healing.
Here you can listen Paula speaking about her PhD research work in her mother tongue (Spanish).
